More About Policy and Administrative Practice Development and Review
Policies
The Board of Education is responsible for developing, implementing, reviewing, and revising education policies that align with provincial guidelines, the Board's commitments, and its bylaws. Policies are generally broad and are adopted to establish and articulate principles, beliefs, values, and objectives of the Board. Policies define roles, responsibilities, and the scope and the limits of authority. Policies are developed and revised when a need to do so is identified in alignment with Policy 1.50 Policy Development and Currency.
Administrative Practices
Administrative Practices (APs) provide guidance on policy implementation and set expectations for employees, students, parents, and the public while on school district property or within school district jurisdiction. APs deliver constructive administrative direction under the authority of the Superintendent of Schools, ensuring consistency and effectiveness in district operations. They serve as operational guidelines for school and district processes in the absence of Board policy, supporting streamlined and effective management of programs and facilities. APs are developed in consultation with appropriate partner groups and can be easily and quickly implemented and amended as needed. APs are published in alignment with Administrative Practice AP A1 Development of Administrative Practices.
