NOTICE OF ELECTION BY VOTING

PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, in accordance with section 99 of the Local Government Act, that an election by voting is necessary to elect three School Trustees for Trustee Electoral Area 1 – Salt Spring Island of School District No. 64 (Gulf Islands). The persons nominated as candidates, and for whom votes will be received, are:

VOTING DATES AND LOCATIONS

GENERAL VOTING will be open to qualified Electors of Trustee Electoral Area 1 – Salt Spring Island:

Saturday, October 17, 2026, between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm at:

• Meaden Hall @ The Legion, 120 Blain Road, Salt Spring Island, BC
• Community Gathering Place @ Fulford Hall, 2591 Fulford Ganges Road, Salt Spring Island, BC
• Salt Spring Island Public Library, 129 McPhillips Avenue, Salt Spring Island, BC

ADVANCE VOTING will be available to qualified Electors of Trustee Electoral Area 1 – Salt Spring Island:

Wednesday, October 7, 2026, and Wednesday, October 14, 2026, between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm at:

• Meaden Hall @ The Legion, 120 Blain Road, Salt Spring Island, BC
• Salt Spring Island Public Library, 129 McPhillips Avenue, Salt Spring Island, BC
• Mary Winspear Centre, 2243 Beacon Avenue, Sidney, BC

MAIL BALLOT VOTING will be available to qualified Electors of Trustee Electoral Area 1 – Salt Spring Island:

To register to vote by mail, electors must submit a completed mail ballot application.

Application forms and information about application deadlines, ballot package delivery, and return requirements are available at www.crd.bc.ca/vote.

VOTING

ELECTOR REGISTRATION

If you are not already registered on the Provincial Voters List, you may register at the time of voting by completing the application available at the voting place and declaring that you meet the applicable requirements set out below:

RESIDENT ELECTORS:

You are entitled to vote as a Resident Elector if you are 18 years or older on general voting day, are a Canadian citizen, have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before registering, and are a resident of Trustee Electoral Area 1 – Salt Spring Island. If registering at the time of voting, you must provide two documents proving your identity and place of residence, at least one of which must contain your signature. The Capital Regional District is using the Provincial Voters List for Resident Electors.

NON-RESIDENT PROPERTY ELECTORS:

If you are 18 years or older on general voting day, are a Canadian citizen, have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before registering, have been a registered owner of real property within Trustee Electoral Area 1 – Salt Spring Island for at least 30 days immediately before registering, and do not qualify as a Resident Elector, you may register as a Non-Resident Property Elector at the time of voting. The following information is required when registering:

• a recent title search, state of title certificate, or property tax notice, showing the names of all of the registered owners,
• two documents proving identity, at least one of which must contain your signature, and
• if the property has more than one registered owner, a completed consent form signed by a majority of the registered owners, designating you as the person entitled to vote for the property. Only one person may be designated for a property. A copy of the consent form is available at: www.crd.bc.ca/vote.

IDENTIFICATION:
The following are examples of acceptable documents for proof of identity: BC Driver’s Licence; BC Identification Card; BC Services Card; Social Insurance Number card; Canadian citizenship card; property tax notice; credit or debit card issued by a financial institution; and utility bill.
