School Year Calendars
Notice of Motion | Draft 2026/2027 to 2029/2030 school calendars will be posted on the district website along with an online form for public input. The motion to adopt the school calendars will be presented at the regular Public Board Meeting on February 10, 2027.
District Updates
Indigenous Education Council (IEC) | The IEC met on October 6 and leadership elections were held. Terri Allen was nominated as Chairperson, pending acceptance, and Kristin Thomas (Halalt First Nation) was acclaimed as Vice Chairperson. Members established a committee to lead the renewal of the Enhancement Agreement and added online meetings in December 2026 and April 2027 to advance this work.
Strategic Plan | The annual review of the Strategic Plan evaluates progress through the SD64 Work Plan Cycle which operationalizes the 2024-2028 Strategic Direction with four themes of focus: KNOW (Truths, Reparation, Restoration and Healing); BE (Relationships and Belonging); UNDERSTAND (An Ethic of Learning) and DO (Integrity and Responsibility).
After School Care | A pilot program is planned to open in January, located at Salt Spring Elementary, for Kindergarten to Grade 5 students. Registration opens December 1st. More information will follow.
Enrolment | District enrolment continues a long declining trend driven by smaller kindergarten cohorts. Local enrolment is down 5% from last year, exceeding projections, though additional 64GO enrolment may increase FTE over the school year. Current district headcount is 1,422 students and FTE is 1379.
School Plans | School Plans for 2026/2027 are available to view on district school websites.
Finances and Budget
Monthly Financial Report | October’s expenditure report shows spending is 2.4% above projected budget levels. This increase is primarily due to teacher salary increases that had not been finalized when the annual budget was approved. The amended annual budget will be adjusted accordingly to reflect these increases.
Trustee Remuneration | Last year, the Board decided to reallocate total trustee remuneration, effective November 1st, to better recognize the additional responsibilities of the Board Chair. Policy 1.22 Trustee Remuneration has been updated accordingly.
