About

Our School

Pender Islands Elementary Secondary School (PIESS) serves around 100 students from North and South Pender Islands, along with middle and junior secondary learners from Galiano, Mayne, and Saturna Islands. The school offers two distinct programs: an elementary program for students in Kindergarten through Grade 7 and a junior secondary program for Grades 8 and 9.

The facility boasts a multi-age library, a woodworking and technology shop, a science lab, a food classroom, and a media lab. Outdoor learning is enhanced by a school garden, a covered outdoor classroom, and a disc golf course, all of which provide hands-on learning experiences for students in Grades K-9.

The Fine Arts program at PIESS thrives with the support of local artists and partnerships with organizations like Ptarmigan Arts and Three on the Tree, offering opportunities in music, pottery, and film making. Additionally, students benefit from world-class coaching through Tim Frick and the BC Wheelchair Basketball program, giving them a unique understanding of accessibility and inclusion.

PIESS fosters a love of learning in students, encouraging them to reach their full potential as confident, compassionate, and responsible citizens. Through collaboration with students, staff, parents, and the community, the school provides a safe, caring, and respectful environment where strengths are celebrated and learning is dynamic and engaging. PIESS truly is a great place to learn!
