Administrative Announcement

To the Education Community of the Gulf Islands School District,

On behalf of the Board of Education for School District 64 (Gulf Islands), I wish to make the following announcements. Effective January 1, 2026:

• Adrian Pendergast has been appointed Director of Instruction, Human Resources. Adrian’s commitment to cultivating an inclusive and positive work environment positions him well for this role, in which he will oversee staff recruitment, retention, and well-being initiatives, while advancing constructive labour relations throughout the District.

• Kadek Okuda is appointed to the position of Principal of Galiano Community Elementary School. Kadek’s dedication to student learning has made a lasting impact at Galiano School and she will continue to lead the school forward through innovative teaching practices that empower students to reach their fullest potential.

• Lyall Ruehlen will assume the role of Principal of Mayne Island Elementary School as part of his current appointment as District Principal for Career Development and Community Engagement. With a focus on administrative mentorship and improving student outcomes, Lyall’s leadership and experience will serve to enrich both the school and broader district community.
